From the M6 join the M56 (signposted Chester and North Wales) at junction 20. Follow M56 to the end and follow signs to North Wales until signs for Mold. Ruthin is clearly signposted from Mold.

An alternative route from the south is via the M54 and A5.

Or if travelling from Bristol and the South West, and you want the scenic route, follow the M4 to South Wales and take the Chepstow turn off. After the Severn Bridge, follow signs for Monmouth and then Hereford. Take the A49 to Shrewsbury, then the A5 for Oswestry then Llangollen. At the junction in the centre of Llangollen, turn right, over the bridge, taking the A525 for Ruthin, up over the moors and the spectacular Horse Shoe Pass.

Ruthin is 20 miles from Rhyl railway station, 20 miles from Wrexham railway station and 22 miles from Chester railway station.
