Laundry & Provisions:
Duvets, pillows & quilts, including extras for the two kid’s
beds, clean bed-linen, two towels per person, toilet roll & cleaning
materials are all supplied. The house is cleaned before & after you
visit, & the bed linen is washed & changed, but please remove
your dirty linen & leave it next to the washing machine on your departure.
Kitchen:
The following basics are included - tea/coffee/sugar/milk & cooking
oils/herbs etc. Please replace anything you finish. There are various
cookery books & basic cooking and baking equipment. There is a fantastic
deli off the square, & the co-op is within a 2-minute walk.
In
The House:
Gillian’s art-work hangs throughout the house, & there are art
materials & books in the twin bedroom. It is a very creative house,
with lots of things you can use, but please respect them. If kids use
the art materials, please put the plastic mat down on the carpet first.
There are books in all the rooms, including art, travel & poetry,
& lots of board games & ‘lego’ for kids. There is
an upright piano in the sitting room, with a small amount of music in
the seat. There is a set of bat & ball games in the shed - please
only use in the park, and not in the shared courtyard.
Central
Heating & Hot Water:
These are on a timer, & come on morning & evening. The control
panel for these is in the hall cupboard, & can be changed manually.
The gas fire in the sitting room can be used independently of the central
heating system.
Hoover
and Brushes etc:
These are all in the hall cupboard. Exterior brushes are in the shed.
All cleaning materials are under the sink in the kitchen.
Washing
Machine:
There is a clothes’ line outside for fair weather drying, &
a clothes pulley from a roof beam at the top of the stairs. There is a
clothes’ horse on the landing, along with a laundry basket, ironing
board & iron.
Dustbins:
Bins go early on a Friday morning. Put bags just inside the arch on a
Thursday night. There are bags in the shed for re-cycling. The re-cycling
bins are in the car park at the bottom of town, behind the Texaco garage.
There is also wireless internet access at the Texaco Garage.
Smoking:
Please only smoke in the kitchen, with the outside door open &/or
the extractor fan on.
Music
and TV:
There is a TV & video player, & a CD/Radio in the sitting room.
There is a digital radio in the kitchen, & there are radios in all
the other bedrooms. As 2A is a semi-detached, terraced cottage, for the
sake of the neighbours, please don't crank up the volume (though the walls
are very thick).
Courtyard
Seating:
There is seating for 8 in the small courtyard, which gets the sun most
of the day in summer. As the cottage courtyard leads onto the main shared
courtyard, please respect the neighbours. Please feel free to water the
tubs whilst you are staying, summer or winter.
Courtyard
Parking:
There is one designated parking space in the courtyard - the left hand
one of the 3 spaces on the right hand side. There is always free &
safe parking in the quiet street at the front of the house. Please park
sensibly in the courtyard, & once un-loaded, only have one car parked
in the courtyard at any time. Thank you.
Dogs:
Dogs are allowed, though preferably not upstairs, & definitely not
on furniture. Any fouling or damage to furniture will be charged for.
There are spare leads in the hall cupboard, & some dog towels &
'blankets' for them to lie on. The quickest & nearest place to exercise
them is left out of 2A, and left at the top of the road & then either
1. diagonally
over the road, through the arch & down 'the cunning green' - which
leads down into the park
2. into the grounds of Ruthin Castle - but the owners aren't keen (and
please respect the peacocks)
3. along the road & left through the kissing gate into the field.
It is a public right of way, but there are cattle in the field.
4. along the road till you have passed the last property on the right
hand side, across the road & over the stile into the field. This leads
round, turning right through a small tunnel at the bottom of the field,
& leads into the bottom end of the park & back up the cunning
green - a good round walk.
Kids:
There are plenty of things for children to do, both in the house and within
Ruthin. In the house, there are games, lego, books and colouring and art
things. In the shed there are various ball games, though please do not
play football or ball games in the shared courtyard. There is a public
swimming pool in the town, and Ruthin park has both a rugby and a football
field, a duck pond and a lare play area with swings and climbing frames.
Maps:
There are plenty of local maps & guide books in the top drawer of
the dresser on the landing. The local library three doors down Record
St, carries a lot of tourist information. A fantastic walk, allowing you
to see the whole valley, is the section of Offa’s Dyke, leading
up to the Moel Famau Monument. Drive out towards Llanbedr/Mold, &
then follow the signs left for Moel Famau.
Library
& Internet Access:
The local library, which is a few doors down Record St, offers temporary
visitor’s membership for loan of books and videos, & has free
internet access & use of Microsoft Office programmes.
Arts
& Crafts:
Ruthin library holds art exhibitions, as does Manorhaus on Well Street.
The Ruthin Craft Centre also has a fantastic gallery space with touring
exhibitions, a café & many small workshops. Local painter Helen
Job has a beautiful farm based painting studio with both large & small
canvases for sale, with access by prior appointment only (01824 702 420).
The art shop up on the square is very good for all photographic, arts
& craft needs.
Eating
Out:
”Manorhaus” is the best bet for dinner in Ruthin, or a drink
at their bar, with a contemporary interior & menu. “On The Hill”,
on Upper Clwyd St, is a relaxed & casual wine bar, & “Off
the Square” is OK for food, but the bar staff are not very knowledgeable
on premium spirits and cocktails. “The White Horse” in Hendrerwydd/Gellifor
is fantastic, both in terms of interior, food and ambience.
Cinema
and Theatre:
The nearest cinema is Theatre Clwyd in Mold – 8 miles away. Ruthin
Library will probably have details of what is showing. A bit of a drive,
but it is quite up-to-date with current releases. There is also a large
street market in Mold on a Wednesday.
Shopping:
The nearest town with all the usual retailers, great shopping arcades,
historic covered walk ways & Roman Walls, is Chester – 20 miles
away. There is also a small retail park beyond Denbigh, on the St Asaph
Road.
Beaches:
Rhyl & Llandudno are also 20 miles away, in the opposite direction,
where there are various castles, attractions & stately homes to see.
